KGC Conspiracy
The Knights of the Golden Circle were an extremely secretive society built of those sworn to maintain the power of Southern slavery and conquer central America as a slave holding territory for the South. Their goal was to first successfully secede from the Union successfully and then acquire Central America as their own. This would give a new crop to dominate another part of the world. This crop is sugar cane which would a whole new market into the slave trade. However, achieving this task required the KGC to work in secret and dismantle the Northern government by seceding from the Union and infiltrating Congress to cripple the North's war effort.
Supposed Members:
Jesse James- This famous outlaw is best known for his cowboy antics but modern day historians believe that he had connections to the KGC. This was because Jesse James never spent the money and gold he stole. It simply vanished and historians believe that the missing gold may have been funding the KGC effort to conquer Central America and secede from the Union. With this gold, President Jefferson Davis and his new government could fund for a new rebel army as well as funding for any damages taken during the war they were about to head face first into.
John Wilkes Booth- Often seen as the rogue actor who assassinated Abraham Lincoln, many do not know that John Booth's signature can be identified on several supposed KGC documents. Also, "Booth's induction into the K.G.C. is well documented," (Hager). Also, there is a strong possibility that John Wilkes Booth escaped law enforcement. Upon the assassinating President Lincoln, Mr. Booth fled the theater by horse and immediately went to the Surratt House and Tavern. This as later found to be a Confederate underground base. After staying there a short time he continued to flee South. Next, he went to a man known as Dr. Mudd because as John Wilkes Booth was leaving the theater he broke his leg. Dr. Mudd supposedly did not know of Mr. Booth's crime and upon seeing his injury immediately attended to him. This is where it is rumored that Booth first started trying to assume a new identity by shaving his mustache and coloring his hair. Booth spent the night at Mudd's house and left in the morning continuing his way South for the next 11 days before finally be cornered in Garris Barn in Port Royal, Virginia on April 24, 18-- where history says he died two days later at the hands of Union soldiers. It is believed that the Union soldiers burned the farm down with Booth inside. However, new claims that Booth was only at Garris Barn very briefly and was not inside when it burned down. Also, 150 years after, relatives of the famous actor claim that his death was staged and he lived many years after. All of this helps keep the mystery of John Wilkes Booth fate well in the balance of question.
George Bickley- Confirmed as the original mastermind behind the idea of the Knight of the Golden Circle, Bickley was determined for slavery to spread to Mexico. The K.G.C. was originally a small volunteer militia for a new invasion of Mexico but eventually thousands of people joined and the cause slowly changed. This new cause was to not only take over Mexico, but all of Central America
